How your feedback will help us shape the next WordCamp Europe

Your WordCamp Europe feedback

This year we decided to do a Community survey to gain insight into how we can improve the experience at WordCamp Europe for the community specifically when it comes to the sessions we offer. We organize this event for you and everyone in the community. Our goal for WCEU 2018 is to improve and innovate on the event format, so we decided to start off with conducting and gathering data from a variety of research.

Amongst those were 1:1 interviews with influencers within and outside the WordPress community, research into other innovative tech events, and of course most importantly the community survey. It is our goal to craft an event experience that provides value to all attendees. Here are some of our findings.

Research results

142 members of the community participated in our Community survey. Thanks to everyone who shared their insights!

How do you use WordPress?

Knowing how our audience uses WordPress is vital when organising an event this large, as we want to offer as much value to the attendees as possible.
The survey results indicated that over 54% of the people who voted are WordPress developers. Coming in second are business owners at 12% and Designers as well as SEO and marketing experts at just under 10%.

Developers: 54%, Business Owners: 9%, Designers: 9%, SEO Experts: 12%, Other: 16%

How long have you been using/working with WordPress?

We were also happy to learn that over 37% of survey participants have been working with WordPress for over 9+ year. Over 30% of people have been using WordPress between 6-8 years, and over 20% between 4-5. We were pleased to see that WCEU is also attracting some of the newer WordPress users.

+30% over 9 years, +32% 6-8 years, +21% 4-5 years, +8% 2-3 years, rest is less than a year

What is your primary reason for attending WordCamp Europe?

Every year we focus on giving a great experience to all the WCEU attendees, so when we asked you ‘What is your primary reason for attending WordCamp Europe?’, you told us loud and clear. Over 60% said they come to connect with people. Therefore, this year we want to provide new opportunities for you to connect with others in the community in a more meaningful way.

63% to connect with people, 31% to learn something new, 6% other

What topics are you most interested in?

The topics WordPress users are interested in are endless, so in the survey, we tried to pinpoint your most popular interests by asking for your top three topics.

The survey results show that the most popular topic was advanced development, with 53% of people selecting it, followed closely by design at 45%, business at 35% and SEO at 33%. These results help us understand the topics that attendees are interested to learn more about in the sessions and how we can offer the most value. What we heard loud and clear from you, is that we’re lacking content for developers of various levels of expertise.

Advanced developer +50%, Design +40%, Business +35%, SEO +30%, eCommerce +20%, Other +5%

Once again, we want to give a big thanks to everyone who joined in with the survey. The feedback from the community is very important to us and will help us make WordCamp Europe 2018 even better and improve your experience.
