WCEU launches call for Teaching Assistants (TAs)

  • Open call for TAs to support hosts during interactive workshops at WCEU
  • Successful applicants will gain valuable experience and invite to volunteer social
  • Call closes on Tuesday 22 May 2018

WordCamp Europe is an annual conference for web developers, designers, bloggers, and anyone working with WordPress to join together for the biggest WordPress conference in Europe. For the 2018 edition, WordCamp Europe (WCEU) takes place on 14-16 June in Belgrade, Serbia.

This year, WCEU introduced workshops into its schedule for the first time. Workshops offer attendees a dynamic and exciting environment to learn about topics ranging from content and branding to advanced development. The sessions have varying length between 1-3 hours for groups of up to 80 people.

With the new format of workshops, WCEU has opened a call for Teaching Assistants (TAs) as an invitation for volunteers to support the workshop hosts leading the sessions.

“This year we introduced workshops as a way for attendees to be able to get a more hands-on learning experience. Workshops provide a more in-depth look at a topic, and are perfect for those who are interested in digging into one subject area,” said Nevena Tomovic from the WordCamp Europe organising team.

TAs will benefit from the first-hand experience of helping to facilitate a workshop, working alongside the best minds in the WordPress industry. The opportunity is perfect for those who aspire to run their own workshops, giving them insight into planning and executing a workshop.

Nevena went on to say: “TA’s are necessary to help facilitate a workshop, and help individuals along the way. As a TA you get to share your knowledge with attendees, and help the workshop host deliver the best possible workshop. ”

TAs will also be invited to attend the volunteer social and the speaker orientation, with a chance to network and build strong connections with their workshop hosts, as well as other speakers and experts working closely with WordPress.

The personal requirements for TA applicants are:

  • Knowledgeable in the workshop subject
  • Willing to support participants that need extra help
  • Comfortable with communicating and working 1:1 with participants
  • Available at the time of the workshop.

The workshops that are looking for TAs are:

  • You, yes you, need to sketch, hosted by Joshua Wold
  • On-Demand Dev with Docker and WordPress, hosted by Daniel Olson
  • An Introduction to Unit Testing (for WordPress), hosted by Thorsten Frommen
